View from the stratosphere

The girls and I are back home from our trip to Michigan where we saw One Direction (with 5 Seconds of Summer) at the Palace of Auburn Hills. The show was fantastic. The boys were amazing. And speaking as a grown woman with fully functional organs, I think I might have ruptured an ovary about halfway through.

Niall was his usual charming self. Louis was fun, as always. Zayn was flawless. Liam was a dancing fool. And Harry... Ah, Harry... Harry was absolutely smouldering. I have to say, though, if I weren't a hardcore Harry girl, last night probably would've turned me into a Liam girl. He was so full of energy and light and life. I can't believe there were some so-called "fans" there with cruel signs abusing him. Honestly, how could anyone not simply adore him?

We arrived at the hotel to find it full of Directioners and a wedding party - about a 50/50 ratio, it seemed. We had three hours before the gates opened and it was only a few minutes' drive from the venue, so we just chilled in the room watching "Castle" and listening to the occasional girls in the hallway screaming and squealing about the upcoming show. Lucky us, we had the room right next to the elevators, so we got a full dose of everyone on the floor.

We all seemed to leave the hotel about the same time, so it was a steady stream of cars to the venue right up the road. Gin said she expected us to be able to roll right in to the parking lot. I asked her how long she'd been delusional.

It really didn't take long, though. We skipped the south entrance line that stretched half a mile and went right up to the north entrance, which was totally clear. A few cars watched us go and seemed to say, "Oh, is that an option?" as several of them started following us. Hello? There's a sign right there.

We got out and considered a stroll around the building to look for tour buses, but we decided just to get in line instead. The northeast entrance was a short line. Those who used the south were in a massive crowd. Did people really think there was only one door?

Anyway, we got in and enjoyed the music being piped in - all very "One Direction fan appropriate" stuff - Demi, Cher, Olly and the like. Well done. I'll never understand when I go to concerts and they play music before the show that's nothing anyone there to see that band would want to hear. Like when I went to Matchbox Twenty and the Goo Goo Dolls a couple of weeks ago and they were playing hiphop over the loudspeakers.

We had pics taken in a simulated phone booth like on the Take Me Home cover and took pics with cardboard cutouts of the boys, both courtesy of Nabisco sponsors as part of the #1DVIP promo. Then I stopped at the bar for a drink - mainly because I was one of the few people there who could legally drink. There were massive lines for merchandise and food, but I walked right up for the booze with no wait. Nice. There are some advantages to being a 1D-obsessed mom. :)

The girls both wore cute dresses, with Gin accessorizing with a careful selection of bracelets proclaiming love for Zayn, Liam, Niall ... and Larry, plus her "infinite Directioner" and paper airplane necklaces. I wore some bright green capris - hat tip to Louis- with a Batman shirt - love for Liam - and my paper airplane necklace, which never leaves my neck. Many of the girls there were wearing outfits that are smaller than my underwear, but most were tastefully dressed in clothing that either directly or indirectly addressed their love for the boys. There were even some guys there. Not many, but we did pass a few.

After wandering halfway around the building, we located the elevators, which were the only way to make it up to our level - in the stratosphere. We came off to find a very quiet hallway lined with doors along one side - those were the suites, and that's where we were headed. It was pretty nice. Each one had a couch and bar and private restroom, with a door leading out to the balcony. We were at the very last one, so we could duck under the rail and move to where we alone had a clear view of backstage. It did leave us with a slightly obstructed view for the show though, and a feeling that we were watching from the outside rather than really being "in" the whole event. Thanks to our position, though, we got the first view of the boys from backstage, and they even sent a wave to us.

Well, that's just a small sampling, but we'll see if I can manage to get through my hundreds of pics (and videos) to post more later.

Just a minute now....

I'm sitting in a hotel room listening to girls screaming in the hallway. I'm not alarmed. I'm in Auburn Hills, Michigan, and there's a One Direction concert in three hours. Gates open in a little over a hour and a half. I'd better get ready. I should have bought ear plugs.....

What's going on?!?!

Yes, I've been gone forever. We've got perfume and album announcements and all kinds of other stuff. Oh, and the boys not only are on my continent - and in my country - they even were in my own state! (We'll be going to see them in another state.)

But today, I'm being bombarded with reports of the impossible happening.

After we were told that Modest! Management forbade the boys from having their girlfriends on the tour (they're a distraction), Eleanor showed up to attend a concert in Ohio. That was Tuesday. And how about the reports of what supposedly happened Wednesday?

(Note: I've confirmed nothing at this point. I'm at work and just being flooded with text messages.)

What I'm told happened Wednesday:

-Louis and Eleanor broke up
-El's dad is officially a Modest! employee (thus reinforcing the notion that the whole relationship was a ruse)
- Harry was "outed" by his friends (of course, this happens frequently)
- Harry sang openly of his love for Louis (he's done this before too)

Anyway, a big chunk of the fandom (particularly Larry shippers) are convinced that Harry and Louis OFFICIALLY and OPENLY Larry now. I can't wait to look further into it………

(I'd like to post pics, but again, I'm at work and kinda posting this on the DL, ya know?)

Someone was trying to kill me today

Someone was clearly trying to kill me today by sending me these pictures of Harry and Lux. Oh yeah, it was my daughter. She's so cruel sometimes.

Sorry I don't have photo credits for these, but thank you - sincerely - to whomever took them. Seriously. Thank you.

Wax and buns

So, the wax figures of our favourite boys were unveiled at Madame Tussaud's in London today.

Sugarscape captured exclusive video of the reveal

Here's more on that.

Um, what did he need that tape measure for? How lifelike and fully accurate are they?

The official poster for "This is Us" was debuted today. Are you ready for it?

BAM! There ya go!

My lovely little Harry stopped by the bakery today where he used to work before he got all famous and stuff.

Harry at the bakery.

Harry at the bakery now and then.
Aw, let me just squeeze his wittle cheeks ... or his buns.

Oh, and let's not forget that today marks 1000 days since the boys were put together as a group!

Ok, this was brief, but busy, no?

Savan songster

In honor of my daughter getting a follow on Twitter from the one and only official and VERIFIED Savan Kotecha today, I thought I'd devote today's post to him.

That "follows you" is, of course, for her, not me.

Considering he's followed by 463,101 people, and he only follows 25,196 himself, that's a pretty big WIN for her.

We all got to meet Savan on X Factor when he treated us with this little number about our favourite boys.

But if you want some real pearls of wisdom, you can check out his YouTube channel here

Savan wrote not only One Direction's first smash hit, "What Makes You Beautiful," but he's also the songwriter for a whole slew of our other favourite 1D tunes, like "Live While We're Young" and one of my personal faves, "I Wish."

In fact, Savan is credited with writing on all of these One Direction songs:
"Live While We're Young"
"What Makes You Beautiful"
"Na Na Na"
"I Wish"
"Up All Night"
"Save You Tonight"
"Kiss You"
"One Thing"
"I Want"
"Heart Attack"
"Last First Kiss"
"Back For You"
"Nobody Compares"
"Still The One"
"Change My Mind"

(Oh, he also wrote one of my fave Maroon 5 songs, "One More Night," which is completely addictive.)

He's won six BMI awards and two Billboard music awards.

Savan has helped the boys from the very beginning, working as their vocal coach on the X Factor.

Check him out working with our sweet little Irish snowflake, Niall Horan. :)

And now, I'd like to wish a happy anniversary to
Liam Payne and Dani Peazer - our Payzer - who marked two years together April 14, and Zayn Malik and Perrie Edwards - Zerrie - who today, April 17, have been together for one year.

And tomorrow, April 18, is an extra special day for the boys because it marks their millediem! Their 1,000th dieversary! OK. I just made those words up. But what it means is this - Harry Styles, Liam Payne, Louis Tomlinson, Zayn Malik and Niall Horan have been together and making us love them more and more every day for 1,000 days!

They've gone bananas!

Oh, my little curly imp likes to advocate healthy snacking by setting a good example.

(credit in pic)
Yes, that's Harry Styles yet again munching a banana while on stage. Word has it, when the boys popped up through the stage for their opening in Nottingham tonight, Harry was crouching and eating a banana. "Five seconds, Mr. Styles!" "Oh, ok, I can finish it then."

"Nice banana!" Oh, stop it!

Harry decided the people of Sheffield also needed a lesson in healthy eating, as he snacked on a banana there too - while performing "Live While We're Young." He clearly was not advocating table manners at the same time, as he attempted to sing with his mouth full. Then he signaled an apology so he could try to chew and swallow a little faster.

And yet, I forgive him.

Based on the other stories that came out of Sheffield, well, I'd say "healthy consumption" was further from his mind....

But anyway, in other news today, One Direction guitarist Dan Richards and musical director and keyboardist Jon Shone decided to team up with opening band 5 Seconds of Summer to redecorate drummer Josh Devine's car.

(via Dan's twitter @GuitarmanDan)

Fortunately, they did it with post-it notes, so it was just some harmless fun. I love the lashes on the headlights. :) And for those of you who were interested getting Josh Levine's license plate number, well, there ya go.

And here's the gratuitous pic of the day. Enjoy! :)

Off-topic: I'm gonna rant for a minute here

There's tragedy in the world every day. There's death in the world every day. Some people have made it their mission today to very sactimoniously point that out.

While many are looking at the horror of the bombings in Boston, they are noting that it's all the more evil because of the total innocence of the venue. Indeed, this race is iconic. It symbolizes health and strength and self-sacrifice and endurance and determination and will and hard work - and it was attacked. There are runners who trained for months and years to get their bodies into condition to run 26 miles - 26 MILES - who reached the finish line to have their LEGS BLOWN OFF!

Three people are confirmed dead. More than 50 are seriously or critically injured. Nearly 100 more were injured as well.

Yet when the world sends its support and tries to offer words of comfort, some arrogant ASS points out that there were deaths yesterday. Where were your sympathies when soldiers died? Where was your heartache at dead civilians - innocent people - in attacks in the Middle East? Where were you were when this or that other tragic thing happened? This is what they ask.

You know what? There are tragedies every day. Some hit harder than others. Some hit farther than others. The impact is felt stronger in some people and in some places more than others. No one can expose themselves to every evil in the world and immerse themselves in empathy for every situation. No one could survive that. Some situations just hit you in the gut. And some situations just hit a lot of people in the gut. Some of them are very, very sad. Some of them are very, very angry. You know what? There's nothing wrong with that, so get off your sanctimonious, superior, holier-than-thou high horse and shut the hell up. Let people feel what they feel.

This is Us

It's not a Backstreet Boys album, an album by The Necessary (later to become House of Fools), a song by LL Cool J or a duet by Emmylou Harris and Mark Knopfler. For Directioners, "This is Us" is the much-anticipated One Direction 3D movie coming out this summer. Did you know there was so much else that was "This is Us"? It kinda makes me wish they'd gone with "1D3D" as the title instead. Still, I don't think there will be much confusion as the release date gets closer.

Sony and Columbia pictures have released a few movie stills to whet our appetites, but I think I can speak for all of us when I say, "We want more!!"

You can follow the latest updates on the official movie site here.

And in case you haven't seen it yet, here's the teaser trailer. So, this is them, then. :)

And have a look at how the Newcastle "trial" went for Harry, Liam, Niall and Louis went!

Footie fun with four fine fellas!

Some of us would LOVE to spend a day playing around at a real premier league football (that's soccer for the Americans) training ground. Of course, my first choice would be Manchester United's Carrington, but, ya know, "when in Rome" ... or in this case, Newcastle.

What better way to get a football club to let you play around their training pitch all day than to say, "Hi, we're 4/5 of One Direction! And we've got these big 3D cameras following us around, so you'll get massive publicity from our film and probably lots of merchandise sales!"? I don't know if that's the approach they used, but it worked.

So the boys brought along the cameras -

Louis got well into the action (he's known to be a damn fine footballer)

via @Navigating1D on Twitter
Liam looked mighty fine even just hanging out post play, here with Josh Devine, their drummer, and Andy Samuels, Liam's longtime friend and former flatmate. (You can see Louis back there too.)

Uncredited repost via Twitter

There was a very poignant moment too, when Louis reportedly saw and hugged his real dad, Troy Austin.

Uncredited repost via Twitter

Troy Austin gave an interview to the Sunday Mirror in March, stating that he would like to reunite with his son, who was raised by Louis' mother, Johanna, and his stepfather, whose name he took.

Louis' reaction to that interview was less than pleased, to say the least.

Oh and here's a gratuitous shirtless Harry Styles pic - only it's NOT gratuitous, because it's from today and therefore perfectly relevant! So there. :P

Uncredited via Twitter (but whoever snapped it can have my first born.
That's a good deal, because he's a cute, smart and funny 22-year-old. My
first-born, that is. Yes, my first-born is older than my curly beloved.
Stop judging me!)

Zayn missed out on the filming to hang out with Perrie, and the boys performed their third and final show in Newcastle. Harry reportedly learned his lesson from Liam's little prank  a few days ago in London and wore a belt this time!

Who is Larry Stylinson?

Anyone who's been exposed to the 1D fandom for more than 2.6 seconds has encountered the name "Larry Stylinson." I mentioned the ship names of the confirmed couples in One Direction in an earlier post - Louis and Eleanor are "Elounor," Liam and Danielle are "Payzer," and Zayn and Perrie are "Zerrie," but many fans believe there's an unconfirmed and not-so-secret couple in the group - "Larry Stylinson." That's Louis Tomlinson and Harry Styles.

Some Directioners like to ship all the boys in every possible configuration (Ziam, Narry, Ziall, etc.) but the biggest and most popular,  and simultaneously most hated and most controversial ship in the group is Larry.

Loads of evidence has been given for the relationship by its supporters - corresponding tattoos, secret hand signals, etc. Frequently the boys even seem to confirm it themselves.

For some pretty compelling evidence (mixed in with some pretty anecdotal and questionable evidence as well) see this rather lengthy video.

Is Larry real? I won't be the one to say, but they'd certainly be a gorgeous couple, wouldn't they?

The Battle of the Boybanders: Louis vs. Tom

In a verbal scrap worthy of the WWE, Louis Tomlinson of One Direction and Tom Parker of longtime nemesis The Wanted battled it out on Twitter tonight, much to the entertainment of fans lucky enough to catch the action.

It all started when Tom called out Louis for apparently mentioning his band during a 1D gig. Tom said Louis secretly wanted to be Wanted, and Louis essentially replied that he wasn't remotely interested.

After Louis' dig at The Wanted's "bad boy" image, Tom posted some pics of them partying. Louis wasn't impressed.

Louis proceeded to post a link to an article from 2011 in which Tom lamented his own failed audition on X Factor.

After a couple more rounds during which Tom insulted Louis' talent and Louis called Tom "the biggest twat on twitter," Liam Payne got in on the action, pointing out that 1D's drummer even has more Twitter followers than Tom has.

Liam then threw in a critique of Tom's singing voice. Louis got even more personal.

Tom replied to Liam with a condescending "aww bless!" to which Liam replied that Tom was "shit."

(I'll even forgive Liam the grammatical error there.)

Eleanor Calder, Louis' girlfriend, stepped in first by retweeting a fan who said it was sad Tom had to put "TheWanted" in his twitter username because no one knows who he is. Eleanor then took the time to remind Tom's girlfriend, Kelsey Hardwick, of a recent fashion faux pas.

You can see Kelsey responded with class.

(Danielle Peazer, Liam's girlfriend, merely slipped in an "oh dear.")

Tom's bandmate Jay McGuinness had his say, which he couldn't confine to Twitter's 140-character limit.

(Click the pic above if you can't see the full image.)

When Louis pointed out the press was probably watching, Tom took a swing below the belt, questioning Louis' sexuality.

Louis took several minutes to respond, noting that Tom should probably stop paying attention to the Larry shippers on Twitter. (Larry's other half stayed completely out of it, so I can't even throw in a gratuitous Harry pic here.)

(Well, maybe a little one.)

After complimenting Jay on his writing skills (on TwitLonger, anyway), Louis decided to wrap up the battle by thanking the fans for their support.

Following the match analysis, Directioners declared The Sassmasta from Doncasta the clear winner. :)

The girlfriends

Three of the One Direction boys are currently in confirmed relationships. Louis, Liam and Zayn all have girlfriends. (Harry and I are keeping it quiet for now. ;) Oops! Did I say that?) Niall has a lot of female friends, and he's been linked with every one of them, along with most female celebs of a suitable age, but every rumour there has been debunked in about 4.3 seconds.

So let's meet the girls we do know about, shall we?

Eleanor Jane Calder
Dating: Louis Tomlinson since around Sept. 2011
Ship name: Elounor

Eleanor was born July 16, 1992, and is and only child. She currently is a student at the University of Manchester where she studies politics and sociology. Louis says he finds it a massive turn-on when she's talking politics. :) Because of school, she is reportedly living in Manchester and in London. She has worked as a store model for Hollister, and she has a Cairn Terrier named Pepper. She is a big fan of Starbucks. (Me too, El!) Her official Twitter account is @EleanorJCalder

This relationship gets a bit of criticism from the fandom, but I think she's an undeniable beauty, don't you?

Danielle Claire Peazer
Dating: Liam Payne
Ship name: Payzer

Dani was born June 10, 1988, and is a professional dancer and part-time model. She has an older sister named Sarah. Danielle lives in London, and her official website is www.daniellepeazer.com . Dani and Liam met in 2010 when Liam was a contestant on the X Factor (UK edition) and Danielle was a background dancer. We're told that Liam expressed interest in her, and Harry decided to call him out on it. Cheeky bugger. ;) Liam and Dani started dating a while later and split up for a while in September 2012, but they got back together in fairly short order and have been pretty much inseparable ever since. Most of the fandom seems to support this relationship, as Liam seems very, very happy - and that's all we want for our boys, isn't it?
The couple recently adopted an adorable pup named Loki. Liam's either: A) a massive fan of Batman, or B) Batman himself, depending on your source. (I'm wearing a Batman T-shirt right now, too, Loki.)

Dani's official Twitter account is @DaniellePeazer if you'd like to follow her yourself.

They're absolutely gorgeous together, aren't they?

Perrie Louise Edwards
Dating: Zayn Malik
Ship name: Zerrie

Perrie was born July 10, 1993, in South Shields. She auditioned for X Factor as a solo artist but was put in a group called Faux Pas. Perhaps it was a mistake? Anyway, she is now a member of the girl group Little Mix, formerly known as Rhythmix, with Jesy Nelson, Leigh-Anne Pinnock and Jade Thirlwall. Her group is making a pretty big splash in the music world as well at the moment, and we're eagerly awaiting a U.S. tour. Perrie is quite well-known for borrowing Zayn's clothes, as well. Perrie is pretty well-loved among the 1D fandom as being adorable, yet strong and sassy - a pretty good match for our Zayn. And even his mother has said she'd make the "perfect daughter-in-law." Now that's an endorsement! Perrie's official Twitter is @PerrieEdwards

Perrie and Zayn have adopted their own crazy frickin' adorable pup who's called Hatchi.

They have quite a lot of fun together!

Now for a bit of randomness.
Here's a gif of El and Dani.

This is a video featuring "Harry's smoothest move" from Japanese TV a few months ago (along with other funny moments, but the smooth move is at the very beginning).

And here's a picture of Harry getting pantsed at tonight's concert at the O2.

You didn't really expect me to leave Harry Styles out of a post, did you?
